Let’s Be Clear…
Yes this is the first moment I had time to update the weekly thought after Springfield. Because I want to provide this spot with meaningful information, I wrote down a lot of what I thought was important and carefully chose one topic to hash apart… The topic is “Let’s Be Clear”
So I have already stressed how important Marketing is to your overall success and I would like to think that you are taking a pro active approach in doing so ( by the way Syracuse area press releases need to go out next week). If you think you are marketing too much, you probably aren’t, so don’t get discouraged just keep the momentum rolling.
It’s important to know what you can market and what you can’t. Make sure if you can actually market a sponsor. How do you know the perimeters? That is easy? Not really but what you should do is to read over all contracts with your sponsors. There should be what they expect on their marketing side and that is the guideline to follow. Think that is easy? Well.. It’s not.
So here is an actual OH NO that happened at Springfield. Promo pieces regarding a rider was handed out to the fans, hundreds of them branding both sponsors ( singles and twins series). It was pointed out after the fact that the two must remain separate. How does one know? Read the contract and if still unclear, call your sponsors.
Let’s also be clear.. When you are on the podium on a twins event do you shout out your singles program sponsors? While you want to include everyone on the podium ( your mind is somewhere else because you are super excited that you are on the podium) What do you say? I can only answer this if your contract is sitting on my desk.
Being someone who helps riders in the marketing needs, I can only do what you allow me to do. You must make a clear relationship with your marketing advisor on what you as a rider can and cannot do with your sponsors.
Let’s Be Clear…My goal is to make your image as positive and as bright as possible. My role is not to brand She Loves Racing. By actively and effectively increasing your fan base will carry your following to many new levels; meaning a huge fan base equals more hits on your site, opens doors to more sponsors and gets more press for you. Sounds like a fortune 500 business right… That’s Clear!
I don’t want to make you are your sponsors cringe. It’s no fun for me to offer all this advice when your contract states otherwise… So please make sure that you pull out your contracts and read them, if you don’t understand what a paragraph means in relation to the marketing scene, call me and we will hash it out together.
Syracuse is around the corner. Many will be attending the Rochester races. If you are not there is a pre race party at Performance Harley Davidson in Syracuse from 4-7. Set up a mini pit and start networking. There are many fans to be had at Syracuse, if you market effectively you could have a whole section cheering just for you! That is about as clear as it gets.
I will be in Syracuse. If you need to discuss anything with me or have a question. I am here for you.
