The Comfort Zone
Something happened to me at Michigan during my weekend visit to watch the races. I went from Marketing Director to crazed fan. Why am I reverting back to when I was a crazed fan? I have no idea. Maybe because I took sometime for me. Time to reflect on where I came from to where I am today. Remembering how much fun it was to find out where all the pros were staying and sitting out in the rental car to catch a glimpse of the hot boys before heading to the track.
My comfort zone back then was really no zone, I was the fly by the seat of my pants type of gal. I remember asking Hacker’s mechanic if I could say Hi to him then wondering what else I could say besides “good Luck”.
I also remember following the big rigs to the track and getting all flustered because I was following Springer hoping to catch him in the side view mirrors. I also would buy a program, race shirt and event shirt at every race and getting that program signed by everyone I could.
When my life progressed and the fun flirty girl grew up I started becoming involved on a business level. It took me awhile to get over the fact that these pros that I once was left breathless about actually has my phone number and we talk on a daily basis.
I am not sure that my comfort zone now is quite beneficial to the sport, the riders or more importantly myself. So instead of going from one extreme to another I have decided to swirl them together. Business is business but having fun while being professional is still more fun and can actually make Marketing work on a larger scale.
It is ok to remember where you came from and to revert back there from time to time. And its ok to come out of your comfort zone on the track if you feel that what you are doing still is safe.
Comfort Zone on a Marketing level needs to change all the time. If you are happy with the amount of support you are getting and believe that those sponsors will help you for the rest of your career… Change that mentality. Revert back to the where you came from routine and fight like heck to keep your sponsors happy. By dancing outside of your comfort zone will insure a fun and different professional approach to your overall success.
Remember to be your self, know where you came from and climb the ladder of success, even if you think you climbed two steps up and fell down three.. Keep climbing!!!
